Twisted

Homicide Detective Petra Connor is the star of this book. She’s been in previous stories with Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis.

Four bodies are left in the parking lot of a dance club after an alleged drive-by shooting. Three of the teens are identified, but the fourth has no ID and no one claims she’s missing. Her K-Mart pink tennies are the only hope of identifying her.

Isaac Gomez, an ultra-brainy grad student, works out of Petra’s division doing research on homicide statistics for his PhD dissertation. He tries to convince Petra there’s a connection between several unsolved murders that occurred over the past six years on June 28th…as though she doesn’t have enough to do with current cases.

So Petra works the old and the new cases simultaneously as the days rapidly dwindle down towards June 28th. She gets leads to the drive-by shooter, but higher-ups take over the case to nab the guy. After an unauthorized arrest that turned into a deadly shooting, she’s suspended. But the annual June killer is soon toast.

Almost everything and everybody is a bit twisted in this story. It's definitely better than The Conspiracy Club.
